Project space

November 21, 2008

so after our last exhabition i took a wee bit of a breather and didnt really do much. i caught up with my sketch book and began to make yet another list of things i have to do before asesment at christmas. While doing all this i tried to ignore that it was my turn in the 3rd year project space the following week. I had no thought of what i wanted to do so i thought about it and realised that for m e it would be grat to have the hole space to myself for a couple of days so i could use the entire space. i decided to just play basically. i didnt really know what i wanted to do exactly so i gathered all my stuff and used the space like my own studio. it was so much fun though a little freezing as it is a big metal container outside. i am very excited about what came out of it and fell i have lots of places i could go with it all. i made some films and took loads of pictures. i am eexcited to see where it goes now! im afraid i had only enough space on my flickr acount for 5 images so i have only been able to show a little of what i did. These will have to do till next month.

Exhibition Performance

November 10, 2008

So we had our exhibition last week and i was strugling to decide what to do but on the day before i finally sorted it out. I decided to be brave and do a performance in the coridor. I was also playing around with projections and found that printing onto trace was the perfect alternative for me instead of digital noisy machines.

i stood still pined only by 2 threads for an hour. It was not really planned to be that long but i found that i got a little adicted to it and kepts doing it longer than planed. Peoples reactions were so interesting. im glad i did it in a narrow coridor as it forced peole to look. they found it very hard to ignore me. one person didnt even think i was a real person! Im glad i did it.

This is all very sketchy right now. I am totally at the beginings of this am just trying lots of things out. i am enjoying working like this alot as these maquettes and photos are my research and I like when you can start to see ideas jumping out from them. I am planning to do a lot more photography so i am going to invest in a nice shiney digital slr. I am very excited.

Back at college

October 16, 2008

Its been a we while since i updated this so here it is. We had our first exhabition back at college last week. It went really well! It was very busy which was great. and we are now looking forward to our next one in 3 weeks. We are planning an aftershow party to raise money for our college trip and hopping to reinvent the exhabition space somehow. Its all very busy and exciting at college right now. I finally decided on this photo for the exhabition.

I wasnt sure how to present it but finally came to the idea of making another thread Square on the floor infront of it.

I wanted to keep it all close to the ground and away from eye level so that it would go unoticed at a first glance. i liked the idea of the viewer not noticing the threads and pins in the floor and accidently troding on them, like you can see in the picture they have become less tense and slightly dirty. I think of this very much part of it. I wanted the photo close to the ground aswell. as i wanted the viewer to have to slightly strain to see it hopefull puting this feeling of tension on there neck, back and legs Slightly echoing the strain on my feet and body when i stood in the square of thread.

I had a last minute exhabition piece as well wich paniced me a little. it was quite a large exhabition space with 3 rooms so it was a little bare in one of the rooms so they asked for some stuff which i had on my wall. i put in a couple of drawings, some crochet (which i thought looked too cobwebby) and a shirt which i had sewn comletely shut so it was unwearable as part of a one day project. I was a little aprehensive as i had never put a drawing on display ever before but it was fine.

another idea

September 24, 2008

Here is another idea i was thinking with the thread. this was very tricky as i had to se up the timer for it. The light kept changing and i culdnt get the camera to sit straight. Im glad i did this tho because i can now fuly visualise what i was thiking. i think that a wider lense would help me a great deal and i need to think a little more about the composition.

Developing my ideas

September 20, 2008

When i return to college next thursday we will be organising a small exhabition in our studios. I have been thinking alot about this and thought about maybe exhibiting drawings. but i have been coming back to this idea of thread and i am now thinking of presenting something along the lines of these pictures. i think this reflects the ideas in my head alot better than the square of pins i did previously. Looking back at the sketches i did earlyer in the summer i think this is me getting somewhere with my thoughts but i am looking forward to seeing where it goes now.
